...He might even be snoring a little as he cuddles that over sized sword of his with one arm.]

The short-tempered Caelica grew impatient as moments passed her by. Taking a feather from that poor bird she killed, she tickled his nose and hid behind the other side of that tree. She's trying very hard to contain her giggling, as she kept brushing the feather against his nose until she got a reaction]

...Except, he most certainly can be. He just lets out another loud snore as Caelica approaches, completely unaware of the danger coming his way.
He'll snort and turn away when the feather is tickled against his nose, but he's still not up.]

His eye are still closed, but he seems to be a touch more aware of what's going on now.]

[Caelica huffs. There was clear annoyance in her tone]
It's way passed noon, Master. You've been asleep for over 10 hours!
From:

Only ten? I think I could manage to get another two in...

[Caelica groaned, crossing her arms at Barrett]
It will be nightfall in a few hours, we won't even make it to the next town! Jeez, you better know a shortcut, I miss sleeping on a bed!

Relax, it's only been about a week hasn't it? That's not too bad. It builds character.
[He'll start counting out the days they've been traveling on his hands, turns out it's been a couple days more than a week.]
Hmmm... It's been awhile since I was last here, I can't think of a shortcut off the top of my head, but I'm sure we'll find something.

[Caelica tries to hide her fear brought to her by those stories she heard from the last town they were at. Something about wraiths that can't be harmed and virtually impossible to fight]
If only the other way to the next town isn't 25 miles away from here. Aww...

[He smiled brightly and pushed himself up to his feet. Worrying wasn't going to help either of them at the moment. If they found something truly impossible to fight, then they'd just have to get out of there.]
Yeah, it's a little out of the way to turn back now.

[Caelica cocks her hip and tilts her head, rolling her eyes. She grabbed her weapon from her spot on the tree, a sword wrapped in cloth. She chuckles to herself]
I already ate, so you can just starve on the way.

You didn't save any for me...? Jeez, you really are heartless.
[He'll rifle through the pockets of his jacket in search of the remains of a travel ration or something small that he can munch on. Alas, he finds nothing, he has a one or two more in his pack but he'd rather save those for now.]

[He was being lazy.]
Wha-Hey-How many times do I have to tell you I'm not your superior or anything.
We're both just two people traveling together. Nothing more, nothing less.

[She grinned at him as they entered the forest. Following a path that grows dark by each step they take. The air started to feel thin, and the surroundings grow more silent. Caelica's warm and happy smile turned sober at the sudden change in atmosphere]
It wasn't like this earlier...
From:

Those are just the basics, anyone could teach you that. I just happen to be the guy who is.
[The scenery certainly isn't looking as pleasant as it was earlier. His smile doesn't fade, but his eyes look a bit more focused than they were before. He's keeping an eye out for particularly out of the ordinary.]
It wasn't, was it?

[Caelica wiggled her fingers of the sword hand, ready to draw the hilt holstered on her back. The ground rumbled for a brief moment, but there wasn't any sound coming from the distance. The pebbles and dirt on the ground shuffled and made a soft noise, but Caelica felt that rumbling beneath her feet]
That wasn't normal...

For Caelica! Fantasy AU; aged up to somewhere in her late teens
Oh, right, because this city was the only place for miles where someone could get a decent drink of water. Or anything, really, assuming you don't take your martinis with sand and mud. Which means that, until she earns enough coin for provisions and a caravan, she's stuck here.
So, goal number one: find some shade, and quick, before the sun scrambles her brain. So Utena quickens her pace, in search of a place to cool off.

She seems to have "taken" something from a store, and now the store owner's big brothers were intimidating Caelica to bring back what she stole]
I paid it right! You said two gold coins for this bag of apples, now you're saying three?!
From:
no subject
...and as she turns around, she catches a glimpse of just how big the two goons are, and how small the other woman was in comparison...
...damnit. Before she knows it, Utena's walking towards the fight, despite her better judgment]
Hey, is there a problem here?
From:

They're charging me an extra gold coin for the food I bought, when they specifically said it costs two gold coins! Now the store owner sent his runts to intimidate and get more money out of me.
From:

Come on, it sounds like a misunderstanding. So, why don't you make things easy for all of us and just let her go, hmn?
From:
no subject
These men don't seem interested in negotiation, and only want more money for their employer's shop. Their grins widened and attacked both the girls. Caelica raised a barrier to protect them both]
I can't move and keep this barrier up, go ahead! I'll follow you!
From:
no subject
What, and let you deal with these guys yourself?!
[She holds her ground, but she's not idle. As soon a Caelica puts up the barrier, she draws her sword, her eyes flicking between the goons and the mysterious girl at her side.]
From:
no subject
[Caelica pushes the barrier forward, propelling both of her enemies a few meters back. It barely knocked the wind out of them as they recovered quickly. Caelica gulps, holding the bag of apples in her arm, and grabbed on Utena's hand with the other, making a run for it]
I should have listened this part of town was shady...! Gods.
From:

We'll worry about that later! Just one thing - how well do you know the rest of this town?
[Because she has an idea]

Aaaand left!
[And to the left is a dangerous alley, part of an abandoned construction project, full of hanging beams and jagged, half demolished walls. It's a tight fit, but should be no trouble for a small, nimble girl like Caelica. Utena, however, does not follow her, instead making a sharp turn to the right. Where's she off to?]
From:

Whew!
[While catching her breath from that sudden burst of additional agility, Caelica looked around for Utena. She didn't really say what to do next...]
